Where Legal Precision
......Meets Creative Vision

At Script It Write, we are a dedicated team of legal professionals with the added value of a professional writer, specialising in serving as advisors for film and television productions.

More importantly....we love Film and TV!

For years, we’ve been offering our expertise for free, but with the rise in UK-based productions—and so many getting critical details wrong (for instance, "objection" isn’t used in UK courtrooms, witnesses sit in the "box," not on a "stand," and no one gets "summoned" to the bench)—we knew it was time to launch Script It Write to set the record straight.

Based in Hertfordshire County, England, at the heart of a thriving film and TV production hub, our team of experienced Barristers and Solicitors combines diverse skills and extensive legal expertise to ensure authenticity and accuracy in the portrayal of legal scenes on screen.

From script consultancy through shooting to project completion, trust us to enhance the legal credibility of your production.

Our consultancy service assists movie and television production teams by providing precise legal policies and procedures tailored to align seamlessly with your screenplay.

We take it a step further by integrating these elements directly into your script (no credit taken), allowing you to see how they work factually while retaining the creative freedom to adapt as needed. Throughout the process, we maintain an advisory role, offering expert guidance without assuming decision-making or managerial responsibilities within the production.

Our sole relationship is with the production team to whom we provide advice.

Our consultation services encompass reviewing and suggesting edits from first drafts through final production scripts. Initially, these recommendations are shared with writers, allowing them to incorporate necessary modifications before presenting to executive producers and directors. Should a comprehensive review be necessary, additional edits will be discussed during production meetings.

Who Are We...

Most productions rely on their in-house counsel for legal advice, which is often sufficient for general legal matters. However, there’s a significant difference between running a script through a legal department and consulting professionals who actively work in courtrooms. Commercial lawyers typically handle intellectual property and contracts—they rarely, if ever, deal with courtroom procedures. This creates a challenge when accurately portraying courtroom scenes, as many in-house counsel have never set foot in a courtroom themselves.

5 Reasons to Hire a Legal Technical Advisor for Your Film or TV Project

  1. Ensure Authenticity in Storytelling
Audiences today are more discerning than ever, and inaccuracies in legal scenes can undermine the credibility of your story. A legal technical advisor ensures your courtroom scenes, legal jargon, and procedures are portrayed authentically, enhancing the believability of your project.

  2. Avoid Costly Errors
Mistakes in portraying legal processes can result in public criticism, loss of audience trust, or even legal repercussions. An advisor helps you avoid these pitfalls by providing accurate guidance on legal terminology, courtroom etiquette, and relevant laws.

  3. Enhance Script Quality
Legal technical advisors collaborate with writers to ensure scripts reflect realistic legal dynamics, from nuanced dialogue to accurately depicted case strategies. This adds depth and professionalism to your story, elevating its overall quality.

  4. Strengthen Performances
Advisors can work closely with actors, helping them understand legal roles and their intricacies. From courtroom demeanor to specific gestures, this insight allows performers to embody their characters convincingly.

  5. Appeal to a Global Audience
Legal systems vary significantly across countries, and getting the details right for the jurisdiction in which your story is set is crucial. A legal technical advisor ensures your production aligns with the expectations of both local and international viewers, making your work universally credible.

Incorporating a legal technical advisor into your team is an investment in authenticity, quality, and audience trust—essentials for any successful film or TV project.
